Well, with both books revised and ready to query, I’m at a bit of a standstill. As of last night around 9:00, I have submitted my first small round of query letters for The Open Door…..now what? I previously wrote a sequel to The Immortal Codex, but considering the massive rewrite I did to the first book, the second will now need to be entirely rewritten most likely. And I think I’m going to put that on hold in favor of writing something new!
New project time is exciting! I have idea files full of random concepts and story threads, although there’s a few where I obviously knew exactly what I meant…eight months ago.
- “Escaping the camp!”
Um, what, In-A-Hurry-Self? In any case, I’ve got some ideas to work with. Even though I know agents don’t want to see vampire books, I have wanted to write a vampire book for as long as I’ve been writing. Because I. Friggin. Love. Vampires. And I’m not sorry! So it might finally be time to write it, if for no other reason than to get it out of my system! 🙂
That said, I’m also going to take a week or two to regroup and refresh. Last night, I laid on the couch and watched movies with my laptop turned off. This is A Big Deal, because in the last few months, I have spent virtually every spare minute working on revisions or my website or the promo videos or something concerning writing. (And don’t get me wrong, I love it!)
But I also share the belief that writers need time to rest and NOT be writing. I haven’t watched any of my beloved three TV shows – Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, and The Big Bang Theory – since before NaNoWriMo. Considering all the hiatuses, I probably didn’t miss THAT many episodes, so perhaps a few marathons are in order while I let some ideas marinate. And in a week or so, I’ll be ready to put my butt in the chair again!
(Unless of course some superstar agent happens to offer me representation this week, in which case my screams of delight will be heard ’round the world as I staple myself to a chair and begin the lovely work once more. It could happen.)by
